Collection at Morrisons Save the Children UK was Morrison’s Supermarket charity of 2012. All proceeds from the regular collections at the store in Dover went to the United Kingdom Families and Schools Together programme (FAST). FAST operated 15 programmes in the United Kingdom in 2011. It helps coach parents on how to support their children’s development and thus break down obstacles that would otherwise stand in the way of children learning.
Sir Roger Manwood’s School Sandwich. Sir Roger Manwood’s School, Sandwich chose Save the Children to be the school’s charity for the 2012. Fiona Gordon, a volunteer, spoke to the pupils about the work of Save the Children. Students from the school dedicated themselves to raising money during a charity week. A grand total of £6200 was raised by events such as a concert, sale of cakes, an Easter Egg Hunt, a non-uniform day, a day taking pets to the school and a raffle.What an amazing amount raised by the students, many thanks to the school.
Quizzes. Save the Children is grateful to Malcolm Farrant who has acted as quizmaster at the three quizzes held at St Andrew’s Church Hall in 2012. A total of £984 was raised from these three events. The events have been well supported and have been enjoyed by all those attending. Thanks also to Marion Farrant for all her support at these events.
Meeting with Local MP.

Sarah Spong met Laura Sandys MP and urged immediate action on hunger in George Osborne’s forthcoming budget. Save the Children is a supporter of the Enough Food for Everyone IF campaign, a coalition of more than 100 organisations, working together to demand changes to the food system that will benefit hungry people. Laura Sandys said “I was thrilled that we have an active Save the Children Branch in Coastal Kent and was very pleased to meet and discuss the IF campaign. I too believe that aid works and will make appropriate representations.
The London Hunger Summit on 8th June saw £2.7 billion pledged by governments, companies and charities towards the fight against hunger. The money will fund plans and projects to combat malnutrition in 20 of the world’s most poverty stricken countries and will save 1.7 million lives.

Zumbathon.
The Zumbathon hosted by Abi Reynaert of the Fitness Mix in Deal raised £1100. Save the Children, Deal is so grateful to Abi for agreeing to hold this event. All those participating thoroughly enjoyed the evening whilst keeping fit and raising money for Save the Children.
Save the Children Deal raised over £10,000 in 2012 which will transform the lives of deprived children all over the world.
